What to Know About PRN Nursing and Blu Med’s Local Division

You’ll hear us talk about it until we’re Blu in the face, but customer service is where we shine— and what we know is an asset in healthcare staffing. We are in the business of helping people help people.

While Blu Med can find travelers nationwide placements, we also find those for people wanting to hang out in our hometowns. Our local division operates a little differently, and we’d like to take some time to discuss the ins and outs of it and how you can get involved.

What is Blu Med Local?

Blu Med’s local division is dedicated to taking care of Lincoln, Omaha, and Council Bluffs facilities by staffing healthcare professionals in those areas who need flexible schedules.

Our local division focuses on the following:

What is a PRN CNA?

PRN is an acronym for the Latin term “pro re nata,” meaning “as the situation demands” or “as needed.” PRN nurses are also referred to as Per Diem (“by the day”) nurses. As the name suggests, these nurses are fully licensed professionals who choose to work on-call instead of as full-time employees. However, their options also depend on what is available from their hospital or agency, so some weeks they may have fewer opportunities to work than they would like.

Let’s say you’re a student, a single parent, or want to work in the healthcare field while maintaining a sturdy work/life balance; becoming a PRN nurse is a great option. Perhaps you’ve been a full-time nurse but have just started a family or are caring for a loved one with an illness. Maybe you or going back to school for an advanced degree. Or maybe you would rather spend more time enjoying hobbies that have nothing to do with work. These are also great reasons to switch to Per Diem nursing.

You will have the flexibility to work the shifts you choose to take and reject shifts that do not fit your needs or goals. This flexibility allows you to work around hectic school and family schedules and provides other unique benefits as well. For example, you can take vacation time without having to ask for it. It also offers more agency over the opportunity to pick up last-minute shifts if your calendar opens up and you want to earn extra money.

How to become a PRN

Per diem nursing jobs don’t require any specific academic degree since employers focus on performance-based experience in these cases. Though, some agencies may want you to have a specific diploma, such as LPN or RN, which might take an average of three years to complete.

Turnaround time with these listings is very short; therefore, the list of requirements is short. Certified nurses will need proof of a COVID-19 vaccination and a valid driver’s license to get started within two days of applying.

Where PRN professionals work

You will typically find per diem nurses working in various healthcare settings.

Some of these include but are not limited to:

  • Acute care facilities,
  • Long-term care hospitals
  • Outpatient clinics
  • Urgent care

How does BluMed Local operate?

What makes Blu Med’s local division stand out among other agencies that offer this type of placement is that while the nurses have all the same autonomy of other per diem options, Blu Med extends its tailored recruiting approach to these professionals. This means that locally placed healthcare professionals can ask about assignments, have a more in-depth understanding of the client, and have a personal connection when they need support. There’s no 800 to call. There’s a friendly face available when needed.

Benefits of Blu Med Local

  • CNA Jobs typically start at $20/hr
