Meet a BluMed Navigator: Kylie

Meet a BluMed Navigator: Kylie

We aren’t naïve enough to believe we’d be successful without our rockstar team. So, naturally, we have to give shoutouts where shoutouts are due.

Blu Medstaff is full of professionals ready to share their expertise with our travelers to ensure they all have a smooth and enjoyable assignment. We aren’t naïve enough to believe we’d be successful without our rockstar team. So, naturally, we have to give shoutouts where shoutouts are due.

We want to introduce you to Kylie. She’s a career consultant with Blu Med who’s been able to bring her own experiences as a traveling nurse to the table. She is also the head of Blu Med’s Facebook group (which we encourage everyone to check out, jus’sayin).

Hello, Kylie! What is your role at Blu Med?

I am currently a healthcare recruiter.

What made you interested in travel nursing/medical staffing?

Before I started my recruiting journey, I was on the other side of staffing. I was a travel nurse locally, throughout Nebraska and Iowa for five years. I was always interested in the recruiting side of things but didn’t want to stop traveling because I loved my job. One day, however, I decided to give it a go and haven’t looked back since.

What is your favorite part about working with Blu Med?

I’d have to say it’s my travelers. Although I love my coworkers that I see every day, I love talking with my travelers and getting to know them.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I absolutely love being outdoors. I also love to do anything with my dog. I have a black lab named Lucy, and she keeps me on my toes. We love going on walks, drives around town, and watching movies together—sometimes, she watches more than I do.

What is your favorite place to be/visit? What makes it your favorite?

I’d have to say, Colorado. I absolutely love hiking, and although I can hike a little in Nebraska, nothing compares to the views at the top of the mountains.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten—professionally or personally?

Life goes on, so don’t sweat the small things. It’s short and sweet, but it reminds me that no matter what hardship you are going through, life will keep going, and things will get better.

What do you think more people should know about working in healthcare?

I think more people should know (and fully understand) how hard healthcare workers, traveling or otherwise, truly work. Working in healthcare can be so draining, although it can also be so rewarding. It is a tough job, and healthcare professionals are warriors.

What advice do you have for new travelers?

Find a recruiter you can trust. Traveling can be scary sometimes and having someone you can really lean on in the hard times makes everything a whole lot easier.

First, thank you for all you do with the Blu Medstaff Facebook group. Can you tell us what made you decide to create it?

I started our Facebook group to make job hunting a little less stressful. Looking through jobs on a company website can sometimes seem overwhelming. I also wanted travelers to be able to comment on job postings with questions to make things more interactive and conversational. Usually, the page is updated a few times a week to stay relevant.

Are there group guidelines?

There are no guidelines for joining or being a part of the group. I’ve been lucky not to experience any issues thus far.

Who posts in the group? Can anyone post a job?

Any of the Blu Medstaff recruiters can post a job within the group.

How does someone join the Blu Med Facebook group?

I have the group open to the public so anyone can join anytime. You just have to search “Blu Medstaff travel jobs” and click join— then you’re good to go!

Now for the hard-hitting stuff. If you were in a one-bedroom apartment for 36 hours with an animal, would you choose a jaguar, a Komodo dragon, or a rhino, and why?

I’d have to say a Komodo dragon. To be completely honest, I’m scared of all three, but a rhino and jaguar could easily kick down the door and come and snatch me up.

Working with Blu Med

There are many perks to the traveling healthcare field— but it’s often the people who choose to devote themselves to such a demanding career that make the difference.
